Protecting your data matters to us. Below we explain which data is processed in the BeachTreff app and on this website, and what rights you have.

1. Controller

The controller for data processing is the operator named in the Imprint. Contact for privacy enquiries: info@berlin-beachvolleyball.de.

2. What data we process

• Account data: display name, email address, and – if you sign in with Google – your Google account ID and optionally your profile photo.
• Profile data: your chosen skill level, optional home court, statistics (sessions played, reliability, level confirmations) and badges.
• Activity data: sessions you create or attend, participations, community posts and comments, level feedback, reported content, blocked users, court-occupancy reports.
• No-show records: a note from the host if you accepted a session and did not attend without cancelling (“no-show”); this feeds into your reliability rate.
• Photos: photos you upload (profile picture and up to three photos per suggested court).
• Court information: occupancy reports and ratings for courts.
• Technical data: a device token for push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and the app language.

3. What other users can see

BeachTreff is a community app. Visible to other signed-in users are: your display name, your profile picture, your playing level, your play statistics (sessions played, reliability rate), your badges, as well as your comments, community posts and any courts you suggest including photos. Other users can find you by your display name via player search.

Not visible to other users are your email address and your login credentials. Choose your display name and profile picture as you wish to appear in the community.

4. Purposes and legal bases

We process this data to provide the app’s features (organising sessions, community, notifications). The legal basis is the performance of the user agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in a functioning, abuse-resistant app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. Processors and services

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging, Cloud Functions, Analytics): hosting and processing of the app data. Our database (Cloud Firestore) and our server functions (Cloud Functions) run in the Google Cloud region Frankfurt am Main (europe-west3). Uploaded photos (Firebase Storage) as well as the authentication and analytics services (Firebase Authentication, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Cloud Messaging) are also processed by Google in the USA. A data processing agreement is in place with Google.
• OpenStreetMap (embedded map): see the separate section “Embedded map (OpenStreetMap)”.
• Open-Meteo (weather): only the coordinates of courts are queried; no personal data is transmitted.
• berlin-beachvolleyball.de (news): the app loads public posts from the website. No personal data about you is transmitted.

6. Transfers to the USA

For the Firebase services listed above, personal data is transferred to the USA. The provider is Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF), so an adequacy decision of the European Commission applies to the transfer (Art. 45 GDPR). In addition, Google has entered into Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Google.

7. No advertising; analytics to improve the app

The app shows no advertising and uses no advertising networks. There is no tracking for advertising purposes and no sharing of data with advertising partners.

To improve the app we use Google Firebase Analytics. Pseudonymous usage events are recorded (for example which areas of the app are opened), linked to an internal user identifier. Only a coarse location (city level) is derived from the IP address; the IP address itself is not stored permanently. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving and stabilising the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

8. Location

The app works fully without location access. Only when you use the “Nearby” feature does the app ask once for permission to access your device location (accuracy approx. 100 m). The location is used exclusively on your device to calculate distances to beach volleyball courts and to sort the results. It is not stored on our servers and not linked to your account. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give via the system prompt.

Independently of this, Firebase Analytics derives a coarse location at city level from the IP address (see “No advertising; analytics to improve the app”).

9. Photos and camera

The app accesses your camera or photo library only when you select a photo yourself — for your profile picture or for photos of a court suggestion (maximum three per court). Images are resized before upload and stored in Google Firebase Storage (storage location: USA, see “Transfers to the USA”). Court photos are visible to all users once approved. You can replace your photos at any time; deleting your account deletes your photos.

10. Retention and deletion

Your data is stored as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Delete account; your profile data is then deleted. Public content you created (e.g. posts) may remain for traceability or be anonymised. More under Delete account.

You can delete your account directly in the app (Profile → Delete account). This removes your profile, your login credentials, your photos, your comments and community posts as well as your participations in sessions; sessions you created are deleted. Deletion is final and cannot be undone. Alternatively you can request deletion by email to the address given above.

11. Embedded map (OpenStreetMap)

This page embeds an interactive map from the BeachTreff app (provider of the embed: BeachTreff, see imprint). The map loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap, a service of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom. When the page is loaded, your IP address is transmitted to OpenStreetMap. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in an appealing presentation of our content (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). 12. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To exercise your rights, contact info@berlin-beachvolleyball.de.

13. Push notifications

With your permission we send notifications (e.g. about sessions, waiting lists, news). You can disable these at any time in your device settings.
